Book of Days

A recommended book for writing prompts is “A Writer’s Book of Days: A Spirited Companion & Lively Muse for the Writing Life” by Judy Reeves (New World Library, 1999).

The book is organized into two pages of writing advice (where to find fresh images, how to get unstuck), followed by four or five writing prompts, one for each day of the year. The prompts themselves are no more than six words; examples include “Write about a pair of shoes” and “Somebody makes a promise.” There are also suggestions for further writing exercises and inspirational quotes and quips about the writing life. A fun and motivating read for writers of all skills and abilities.
